Taste of Chicago

Chicago.  Just got back from a wonderful week visiting what was our home for 6 years.  (Ok, technically, we lived in a suburb of Chicago, but we like to claim the City as our home).

We stayed downtown so we were able to walk to whatever we wanted to do.  It has been four years since I was there, so I wanted to revisit some of the things I love most.


That meant walks on the beach, time at Navy Pier, an architectural tour, lots of wonderful food, and then, just for fun, sailing out on Lake Michigan on aThe Lynx, a privateer schooner.

There's so much to see and do there, I'm completely convinced you could never do it all.  But just in case you haven't been to Chicago, here are a few photos to encourage you to take time and go play.

This is the Chicago River.  Like the rest of the city, it has a very interesting history.

 Capturing the magnitude of the city is very difficult.  I thought the reflection of skyscrapers in a skyscraper came about as close as any of my photographs to communicating just how spectacular it is.

And Buckingham Fountain - breathtakingly beautiful.  (wait....just discovered there is an underground Buckingham Fountain tour.....!!!  Guess I need to go back....)

And finally, all Tall Ships "sailaway" tours were sold out by the time we got to the ticket booth....that is, all except the 5:30pm tour.  I was excited, anticipating the lovely late afternoon light.  It didn't disappoint.
