Once upon a time, in a photography class at Northwestern College in Naperville, IL, we were asked what we liked to photograph. Going around the room, each student was to share their name along with our particular photographic interest. "Landscapes.......people......animals........nature......." Then it was my turn.
I took a deep breath and said, "Feeling. I want to be able to capture the feeling of the moment." There was a long pause and our professor said, "That's the most elusive quality of all to capture....."
That's probably why it's not especially important to me to have the subject of my photograph look straight at the camera. It's why it doesn't bother me if I don't have a row of smiling faces in my photograph.
I find that I revisit photographs that give me a sense of what the person, place, or event was like. A photograph that communicates "feeling"
"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.....and it was good..."
Beauty. Wonder. Music. Feeling. Mood.......is good.
