When I Grow Up

Somewhere I read that when we are toddlers, we interact in our world in a more genuine manner than we do as we get older.  As a toddler, we don't hesitate to laugh, to cry, even to have a tantrum - emotions perfectly appropriate for our current situation.

I also read that at about the age of three, we begin to understand that the important people in our lives expect us to behave in a certain way. We want to please them, so we try to conduct ourselves in a manner that we believe will make them happy.

I love the laughter on the face of this little girl.  She's holding her Granddaddy's hand, probably at Easter.  I have no idea what was going on that was so funny.  But she laughs - and her Grandaddy smiles at her.

I've decided this is what I want to be when I grow up.  Someone who isn't afraid to laugh with abandon.  Someone who is genuine. Someone who finds the joy in the moment.

Hoping that someday, as I grow up, I can be more and more like this little girl; because when this little girl grew up, she became me.

  1. I meant to tell you that I went back and read this after we had dessert a couple weeks ago. Loved it. :)
